Paper recycling has been used for a
long time. There are many advantages of paper recycling such as; save the
natural exchequers, save energy, it also can give a free space to other types
of trash that can`t be recycled. One of the Chinese people invented paper his
name is Ts`ai Lun. Before he invented the paper, people wrote on papyrus, a
natural reed used by Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Paper recycling began in
1960 in United States, when William Rittenhouse, made his paper from discarded
rags of cotton and linen. In 1800s people in U.S. started making paper from
trees and wood fiber. In 1800, an English paper maker named Matthias Koops was
granted the first patent for paper recycling patent no. In Baltimore, Maryland,
paper recycling in 1874, as part of the nation`s first curbside recycling
program. And in 1896, the first recycling center opened in New York City. From
those early efforts, paper recycling has continued to grow until today. The
paper is the most kind that use in recycling than other recycle items.
Approximately 80 percent of U.S. paper mills use some recovered paper fiber to
produce new papers and paperboard products. The same paper can be recycled up
to seven times before it must be discarded. But every time paper is recycled,
the fiber becomes shorter, weaker, and more brittle. In conclusion, paper
recycling can help the environment such as; preserve forests, because it
reduces demand for wood. Also, it reduces solid waste, because it diverts
usable paper from the waste stream.
