Taboos in my country

Nowadays business is widespread in all over the world.  In Kuwait there are many kinds of private business and a lot of people study and work in business sector because it gains lots of money. People have to care about some gestures or attitude when want to make successful business in other countries. For example, there are three taboos that a person should be aware of when doing business in my country (Kuwait).

First, gift giving maybe is very important part in many countries to improve the business relationships. But, in Kuwait giving expensive gifts is not appropriate. For instance, when a person give the Kuwaiti guy an expensive gift he will think that this person gave him this gift to force him to accept his business or rules. Also, expensive gifts can considered as bribery which is it not allowed (Haram) in our religion (Islam). We can accept small or symbolic gifts as a kind of respect or kindness. In short, if you want to give a gift make sure it`s not expensive, in my opinion the best gift is any landmark of your country will be a good gift.

Second, there are some of personal information maybe a lot of people don’t like to talk about it, in their mind it’s a kind of privacy not all people should know about them life. In Kuwait the person who asking about personal information may considered as a nosy, which in Kuwait don’t like this type of person. Here are some types of questions: are you married? What is your wife name or her occupation? Do you have kids?. In summary, be careful don’t ask these questions to Kuwaiti person you don’t know, you will really lose your business.

Finally, personal ethics can be a very significant reason that people in business field like to deal with it. In Kuwait breaking promises is forbidden. For example, when a person gives his word he should be up to it. Also, breaking promises lead to lose trust between persons. In addition, it`s a sign of non-respect. In short, be aware about your promises because you will really lose your reputation maybe in all business companies.

In conclusion, making these types of mistakes or taboos in Kuwait can at least give the company or product such a bad name that it closes out the market entirely. To avoid blunders you must study or know about the culture before you go to the country.
